I love my 6600 Janome. Like Patrice, my foot is very sturdy and so is the attachable table. Wouldn't trade that machine, have only had good luck with it.

My husband bought me the Janome 6600P, last month, and I love it. Check it out, there is nothing cheap about it, and when I quilt, it does not move...another important factor for me. And it is not heavy, or bulky to carry.
Also, it is very quiet, even for the speed. I like the high speed, I do not like a slow machine, because I did industrial sewing, for many years. My husband even commented on how quiet it is.

I have the Janome6500 and the 6600 is the upgrade. I love my 6500, and if my budget at the time would have allowed I would have gotten the 6600 instead. It has some great features, so that would be my personal recommendation as I know nothing about the Elna. I do know that Elna makes a great sewing machine too.

    Hi
    I am in Sydney
I have the 6600P which is a great machine
It does require you to work out the settings to suit you on the 1/4 foot but I have no problems with that
Some of the accu feed feet I dont use
It is a very heavy machine so not suitable to cart around
But I have had Janomes for a very long time and never had any trouble with them
Depending on what you want to pay they are releasing a new machine the 7700 Horizon
You may want to look at that
There has been a lot of discussion about it but it is probably over $3000

I've sewn on the 6600p and it's a nice machine. But, if the money is there, check out the Babylock Espire. It's great for quilting, has a LOT of nice features, approx. $1800 US.

gollytwo.... I've seen quotes on the new Horizon from $2995 to $3400. Too much for me but I would love the machine, I don't 'need' it... I have the Janome 6500 and love it. It is the 'greedy' part of me that wants more, more stitches, more throat/bed space 11 inches instead of 9 inches, more new stuff.

    sigh,

    ;)

    Thanks for that
That is the price in the US
I dont think they have released a price in Australia
    yet
It sounds great but dont know whether I can warrant paying that sort of money as my 6600 is only 4 years old

I have a 6600 and I did not know that it has an attached walking foot or the other thing you mentioned. I have been very dissatisfied with it but, evidentally, I don't know much about it. I live 150 miles from the store where I bought it (one way) so I haven't been back for lessons. Guess I'd better go.

Janome owns Elna so they should be similar. I am getting a new machine for Mothers Day too. I looked at the Janome 6600 and loved it. It's also in the top 3 in Consumer Reports. #1 was Bernina.
