buying fabric by the bolt
I've never bought a bolt of fabric before, in fact buying a yard is a BIG amount for me. I am interested in buying a bolt of a nice white and/or cream for backgrounds. Where do you buy fabric by the bolt? I want to do it this way for convience as well as to get a better price(I hope). I have found muslin available but not anything like Moda Bella, or P&B color spectrum, etc...I don't love Kona solids, but I haven't even found a source for that. Do you buy online or locally? Doesn't the shipping offset any savings? Thanks for any information.

What I buy is Moda Muslin, either natural or bleached. I use it both for backgrounds and for backings. It is also what i have used for hands for Sunbonnet Sue and other such applique. I started getting it when I was doing quite a bit of printing using Bubblejet. It takes dye nicely, when I am doing that sort of work.

Your should talk with your local quilt shop or Joann's and see if they will order the bolt for you and if they have a discount available.
I was at Joann's ordering Raider fabric and the woman wanted to know if I would like the entire bolt they always discount the bolt.

Pohlar fabrics in southern Indiana had that discount policy. And on the last day of the month, they used to discount the rest of the bolt if you would buy it all. Pays to ask the manager, if the employee does not know, what discounts might be available as they often are not published.

I haven't bought fabric by the bolt, but I know that this place sells it.

I don't know how the prices compare and I am not affiliated with this company.
