I know how you feel about the distance. I am about 60 miles from the nearest Brother dealership where I bought my machine. It is a major trip from the country to the city to go to the dealership.

I know you took the needle out, but please remove it again. Now remove the bobbin case. Now try turning the handwheel(always turn the hand wheel towards you.) Does it move freely now? If it doesn't, you probably have thread caught somewhere you can't see and a repair is advised. If it does move freely, replace the bobbin case. (Don't forget that there is an order to this process. If you have removed the needle plate for any reason, you have to remove the bobbin case, put the needle plate back on, then put the bobbin case back in, then the cover over the bobbin area, then put the bobbin in. Now put in a new needle. Thread it. ( If you have a needle down button, touch it, touch it again, this now has placed your needle in the perfect position for your needle threader to work.) Turn your hand wheel toward you, all should move freely. Good luck.

Never apologize for your equipment. My aunt used to say a poor workman always blames his tools, but everybody on this board should understand the difference it makes to have equipment you can use efficiently no matter what it is.
You will like quilting better maybe when you get what sounds like the stuck thread out of your machine.
Meanwhile, try hand-quilting. Maybe you will like it better.
Maybe you are trying to challenge yourself out of your comfort zone but either you've gone too far or the machine glitch has caused the problem.
A 40-mile drive can be a road trip (woowoo where else can you go on the way there or back?) and a $70 charge to clean out the machine is nothing compared to fabric cost.
Chin up! Cheer up, there is a bright side! For one thing you are making a bowtie quilt which is not easy!

UPDATE!!!
I got it working. I took the cover off the thread take up leaver area. I used my little brush to clean out any lint on the needle holder shaft, then put on tiny drop of oil and it is working smooth now. Load off my mind. Hopefully it will work fine from this point on. Thanks everyone for your suggestions and support.

I was sewing along on my Brother SQ9000 ( not an expensive machine, but what I can afford) quilting a bowtuck i'm working on and it locked up. It gave me an error message for tangled thread. I removed all the tangled thread, made sure the bobbin casing and everything was clear of dust. I turned the handwheel to see if everything was moving freely and isn't. When I turn the hand wheel it feels as if at one spot something rubs or hangs up a little. Short of cracking open the housing I cannot find anymore thread.
I tried calling Brother and their offices are closed. I didn't see anything on their website about being open from 9-6 eastern. Fustrating. I hope whatever it is will still be covered by the warrenty but i'm not going to hold my breath. As it is to find a service person I have to travel over 40 miles north or south.

I am so glad that it all worked out for you. This board if so full of useful information. And the good thing is you didn't have to wait until it was fixed! Sometimes this is more stressful than a piece of caught up thread. I have a Brother NX600 and a couple of utility machines. I had to call service and they walked me through everything on the phone. No service call needed. It ended up being a bobbin to one of my older machines that I had put into my Brother. Wrong bobbin, no workie. So I ordered bobbins from Brother and on the inside of all new bobbins I put a dab of nailpolish. Do not put it on the outside, it may cause it to rub inside the bobbin case. I haven't had a problem since.

I totally love the people on this board. So many are so helpful in determining how to do this or that, what to use, what not to use, what to try, what not to try, ect. It is wonderful to have such a wonderful pool of knowledge to get help from. It is so nice because some have experienced the same problems.
I really thought hard before removing that cover because I don't want to damage anything, but it was one screw and a simple lift of the cover. I made sure I didn't touch anything else and would never even consider removing any part of the case surrounding the electronics. That would scare me.
Think I will go sew.

I have trouble with my Brother as well. When that happens, I turn it off and let it sit overnight or longer and then it seems to be ok. My friend works at Walmart and said they have lots of Brother machines returned because of tension issues. That's sad because I really like my Brother machine, but it is frustrating when it acts up.
