Ann -- I think you mean after 1965 (and I would agree since I had one of the early 1970's and I too junked it because I did not want anyone else to have the lemon.

What happened to customer service....don't these companies get that there is so much more to choose from?? And that we all talk about their poor service??

Singer for reasons that are mindboggling, have two very different quality of machines. Two of the same machines, one is cheaper made, one is high end great quality. Singer does that with everything they make. It's two different manufacturing. They don't seem to care that the lesser quality gives the Singer brand a dollar store image.
I have one of the first Singer Quantums and it looks nothing like the first Quantums that were for sale everywhere. Mine is not the lightweight plastic, it's like the Juki hard plastic/metal build and is a heavy machine. It sews smooth and quiet and has never given me one bit of trouble. Most of the Singer dealers get the cheaper models! Easier to sell? I don't know.

http://bestsewingmachine.net/sewing-...r-9240-quantum Here is the only pic I can find of the first Quantums. Mine is before that, no needle up or down is the only feature I don't have on it from this one. It is mechanical and computerized! First batch model Quantum manufactured before they 'improved' it.

Hope you can find some relief with this machine or from this machine.

I am praying so hard that my quantum continues to be good tome. Looks like I need to find me a backup sooner than I thought.

I can only imagine how frustrated you are!! Hope you get some reaction from Singer. So many companies just don't seem to care about customer service anymore. We're with you!!

Unfortunately I had the same problem with Pfaff. After sending it in twice with no good results. I am not even sure they tried to fix it. I know the local dealer didn't. DH wrote them a letter that he was hiring a lawyer. We sent it back again and they put a new board in it and it worked. I quickly traded it in after telling the Viking dealer my problems and got a Viking that I have never had any problem with. If you can get your hands on a Viking Lily they are really nice machines. I also have a Viking Designer 1. BTW they never even tried to replace it with a new machine. Just kept horsing me around. I threatened to throw it out the second story window. Then DH knew I had, had it. So I appreciate your frustration.
