the only way i know to fix this is to skin the quilt.

i'm shocked that a professional LAer gave the quilt to you in this condition and had the nerve to charge you for this workmanship.

you need to return the quilt to the LAer and have them load the quilt back onto the frame so that the quilt can be skinned quickly and safely. you can look up "skinning a quilt" on youtube so you can see the method.

i would also get a refund of all monies paid and then give it to someone else to quilt for you.


fancyfabric thanks for that info. I have never heard that term and it is very good info. I also would take it back to the la'er. She needs to make it right one way or the other.

I would visit the LA with quilt in hand and ask her how she/he plans on fixing it. Unless it is a friend and then I would just do it myself and not say anything - but not have her do any quilts again.

I am a LA quilter-- the tension was way off. It all needs to be ripped out and redone---period!..If the person who did this will not do it, then you should get a refund. The rip out will not be too hard as the stitches are so loose . Good luck!

Just Me...

I am a longarmer and I can tell you this...it will be EASY to pull out the stitching with it being so loose. She had tension problems....and I'm guessing you do now, too! Only cut threads from one side. Pull the loose thread through, and the other side will come out in big long threads. It will go quickly. I don't think I would take it back to her to fix, though. She should have checked it when she took it off the machine. JMHO

I am so sorry this happened. Have you called and chatted with the person who did the work? I would think they should take it back and redo it.

I definitely agree: refund or do over, preferably refund, since she did not catch this tension problem, and send to another LAer. This is not what I would call a professional job.

I check my tension and the LAers I know check their tension, just like "Justme" said.

I agree! That is pathetic, especially since it is a gift and was sent on the assumption that it would be done correctly!
