I found this site online and thought I would give it a try, of course on scrap fabric that I know will bleed so that will be a good test. Has anyone tried this homemade version?

I had the same problem once and Synthrapol was recommended to get out the "bleeding". It worked wonderfully. There is also a product called Retayne that supposedly prevents "bleeding" but I haven't tried that yet. I was able to pick up the synthrapol at my local quilt shop. If yours doesn't carry it, perhaps they would order some for you. Good luck.

I live in New Brunswick and we get them at the local grocery store. They are called Dr. Beckman's Colour and Dirt Collector and have 30 sheets to a box. I live alone so rarely have enough whites for a was alone. These colour catchers have saved my hide more than once.

No, not really, but others will swear they do. It's been tested...makes no difference worth noticing.

Synthrapol added to the wash will keep loose dyes suspended so they wash away and do not settle on fabrics. That's an option to Color Catchers. Retayne is not for use in mixed color loads. It will set loose dyes on anything in the same load.
