Can you really make a quilt in a day?

I did it once. A friends hubby was deploying soon and anyone familiar with the army they pack several weeks in advance to ship. She wanted to make him a small quilt and we had two days. First day we picked out the fabrics and bought everything. I chose yellow brick road and on the second day we made it start to finish. Stitching in the ditch and machine sewn binding. I taught her to quilt cut and piece in the process. Turned out great and was special.

I did a quilt in a day-Roman strip pattern-it was a blast-however, food was prepared for us, someone did the ironing so all I did was sew, sew, sew-it was fun-not want to do it all the time-do agree that speed is not what counts, creating and being satisfied with your creation is what counts-IMHO

It is possible to do the simpler quilt tops, in a day. I was around when this concept began and the classes were formed with two people working on a quilt. Strips were precut before the class. One partner sewed while the other pressed and cut units. That way it really was possible to make the top in a day. The following week the same two people came back and the sewer, then pressed and cut and the presser sewed her/his quilt top.

I don't work and I still couldn't or should I say haven't been able to make a whole quilt in a day! I can maybe sew the top all together...if I have cut it up ahead of time and pressed and ready to go. Oh well maybe after a few more years I'll get there!

I have made the "10 Min Block" quilt top (complete with borders in a few hours), but it was not finished as far as "ready to give away". I took a class on tube method of making a lapwarmer and that we made in an afternoon too. I like to sew to mellow out...and if/when I hit the timer to sew.. it's not near as relaxing...

I have done one quilt start to finish in a day. This pattern was one of my first quilts. (I did have a full time job then by the way.) My DS has been sleeping with this quilt every night for almost 3 years now. It is a simple pattern, but I made it with his school colors and mascot and he loves it. I did simple SID quilting and rolled the backing forward and machine stitched it down. Fast and satisfying for a beginner.
