Default Can you substitute flying geese for half square triangles?

I am done with the top of this quilt and ready to do the border. Part of the border is making half triangles all around. But I thought I'd make flying geese instead and save myself all that cutting and resewing of the squares. They look like flying geese once they are stitched together. Am I wrong? Thanks for any advice.

IMHO I think you could do it. I've even thought about doing it because of the hate affair I have with flying geese. Why not try it on a few blocks and put them together and see how they look? Seems like it would work. You wouldn't have the point with the 1/4" though, I don't think.

Yes, you can. Should give you the same effect.

Sure you can substitute if you like the look of the flying geese better than half sq triangles. However, I can't believe that you rather make them, to me they are so much harder to make! I have have used prairie points in place of half sq triangles in the past because they were faster for me to make.

I love your pattern and your fabrics. HST's or flying geese, whichever you prefer, as long as your fabric can be cut into either size.

Thank you. The quilt was on the cover of the Fon's and Porter Sept/Oct 2011 issue. Luckily I had all those fabrics in my stash. Most were fat quarters and I still have left overs! Mine seems to resemble the one in the magazine closely.

nygal, it's your quilt and you can put whatever you want around the border. Keep this secret - there are no quilt police! Only critics and they can't make the creative work you can because it's your ideas, fabric choices and beautiful work!

I substitute flying geese for 1/2 triangle squares all the time. Less seams to worry about....
