OK, so I'm new to quilting so forgive me if the answer to this question is obvious, but....
Clover have Black Gold needles that are supposed to be much easier to sew with, they have ones labelled 'Quilting' and ones labelled 'Quilting Between'. The diameter and length of the between is slightly less for the same size. Which do you use for what? Or are they both for hand quilting and is it just a matter of preference, in which case, which do you prefer?
Thanks in advance for your help.

I personally perfer the skinniest needle that I can get the thread through the eye. It seems like the skinnier the needle is, the easier it is to get nice even stitches, especially at the intersections of blocks where there it is bulky.

This is really an interesting question, Barbara. I've just checked that in the web at Clover's page and they offer both needles without indicating the difference in use. That really makes me curious. If I find something out I will post it here!

I've always used the quilting between. They have several different sizes in the package. This way what ever works best for you and your project is what you use. I've never purchased just "quilting needles" but I'm thinking that they are all the same size.

Are the betweens shorter??? I always thought that betweens were shorter to make the sewing easier.....but I've never doublechecked...

Betweens are shorter than sharps (normally used for sewing) or appliqué needles. So when you compare a #12 betweens with a #12 sharps the betweens is the shorter one.
