Oh, that's right. The flannel rag quilts are precious and so useable. You know, you are going to make more than one quilt anyway; so be sure to include a rag quilt. - Cynthia

Congratulations, Grandma!!! Perfect Christmas gift for you :-D

For my one and only granddaughter I made a rail fence in pastels - yellow, blue, pink baby-themed flannels. I tied it and hand-quilted with embroidery floss a heart in every square. I did alternate the way the heart was facing so there is no wrong way to place the quilt. She loves it and at 3 still naps with it. Of course, now I'm making some with the alphabet...poor child will be inundated with quilts her whole life!

I began quilting when my DGD was 2 months old, and my first quilt was made for her...Turning Twenty Again. I made it twin sized and had the lady who quilted it for me put the names/birth years in all the larger squares, back to her great-great grandparents. Her full name and birth date were on a square, but everyone else had their full name and year of birth in the squares...made for a beautiful, useful family tree!

The biscut quilt is stuffed squares that look like biscuts. You can find the instructions @ biscut quilts.com :)

What I did was make a quilt after the baby was born and I had all the Information. We had a grandson first and I found a pattern with planes, hearts, stars and clouds. In the clouds I embroideried the Information. In one cloud I put His Name in another I put the date and time. In the third I put his weight and Length. This time it's a girl and I'm going to change the Planes to Sunbonette Sue and Pink instead of blue. The Mother is so excited. The first one is hanging on the wall in his room.( Maybe not exactly what I was thinking.)

they are so much fun to make--- the top square is larger than the bottum by 1/2 inch i stuff with fibir fill when i make them for the intensive care unit but at home i stuff with fleese, batting and anything else i can find. great way to get rid of scraps.. then back'em and i tie them. i was just thinking ---you know those squeekers you can buy at petsmart for dog toys you could put in a couple those and watch what the babies do when they find one. they love to pinch and pull at the fabric.
