In my last house my quilt room was in an outbuilding with no insulation under the floor so had cheap berber carpet installed with the heaviest padding I could find to keep my toes from freezing (Raynaud's disease). The pins and dog hair were a problem. In my current house I have vinyl and love it. Ceramic causes me a backache after about three minutes of standing and the grout is a pain to clean. The long handled magnet gets the pins that drop and the rest of the stuff is easy to vaccuum and mop occasionally. I've had a chef's mat in that room for some time which I use at the cutting table or ironing board for extensive us of either. Chef's mats cost a pretty penny but are worth it for this broken down old wreck of a quilter. I've gotten two of them for my kitchen recently. You can get them at Bed Bath & Beyond and kitchen supply stores.

Laminate here! I really like just being to use a dustmop to clean. First I use a magnet "wand" to get up the dropped pins and stuff, and then the dust mop for the threads, lint and dust bunnies.
I almost NEVER have to wet mop, and the floor always loos good.

I am in total agreement with QuiltNan. About 2 months ago I posted the same question to the board. I had the carpet removed and Pergo installed. My only regret is that I didn't do it 5 years ago. I HO it is the only flooring for a sewing room.

Definitely any hard-surface floor, not carpet!

I'd suggest anything except the carpeting if you're redoing the room and have the choice to redo the floors.
Same here I like the ease of cleaning wood floors.

I have wood floors but an area down because the chair gets away from me and once slid out and I fell. I am partially handicapped and had a terrible time getting up. I like the wood look though.

My sewing room has a concret floor, in basement, so I have a piece of low pile wool carpet down there by my machines.
But I also have a higher pile carpet, next to that.
I lay out my quilts on the floor and have to crawl around to arrange them.

The higher pile carpet is a lil hard to vaccum,
but my Dirt Devil does a pretty good job on it.

We have vinyl flooring in our mobile home. Replaced all the carpeting when we discovered how much our puts liked the carpet, too!!!!! So now we have very easy to clean vinyl flooring throughout the home. It's easy to dustmop up the threads & dust bunnies, & Use a magnet for the pins & needles to save my back!!!!

Laminate here. So easy to take a swiffer or broom to. Good luck in whatever you decide.
