carpet vs. wood floor in your sewing room

Wood floors here.. easy to clean! DD4 likes to run our little rechargeable upright Dirt Devil sweeper and watch the threads and bits get sucked up.
It's also a lot easier to see a pin if it's dropped.
The idea of DD4 stepping on one makes me cringe!

I have carpet tiles that by grandson designed into a star quilt block and I really like it he was 12 when we did the room and I was very proud of him. I did the cutting of the carpet tiles and he placed them and it is a huge star block.

I have 100 yr old heart Pine floor--a birthday gift from my son. Also a plastic mat under my chair --the chair wheels were eating up the floor --and throw rugs for my feet where I sit. Dust the floor while sitting with my dusting swiffer. I liked the carpet also.

Wood or linolium. a smooth surface is much better. if worried about certain areas put down a mat or throw rug. We restore sewing machines and the carpet is a real issue- thread, pins parts, all get lost on the rug and set up for problems as well as the occational finding one with your fot. Would definately choose something smooth

In my current house (a 1920 bungalow farmhouse), we're slowly removing the wall to wall carpeting to get back to the plank flooring underneath. You would not BELIEVE the amount of dust, etc, in those carpets, even though they have been vacuumed regularly and steam cleaned annually. ICK!!!
Wood floors don't have to be varnished, either. In my old farmhouse, they were painted originally and that's what we're going with.
Taking care of hardwood floors just seems so much easier to me. A dust mop spritzed with plain water catches the dust without sending it flying up in the air, is lighter to handle and doesn't have to be plugged in.
Little area rugs that can be washed or at least taken outside and get the dust beaten out of them can be used to provide a soft surface in any area you might want one (say, under your sewing machine stand/table).

I have both (2 sewing studios, 1 with and 1 w/o carpet) an don't really have a preference. My only preference is that the vacuum cleaner be the type with NO beater bar thingy to get all wraped up with threads...Shop-Vac <G>
