I have ceramic tile in mine. I thought I wanted carpet but am so glad to have a floor that cleans easily & that pins can be seen & picked up. Stepping on a sharp pin or needle that was dropped on carpet can be painful! Definitely go with a hard surface floor & use area rugs or rubber mats where you must stand for very long.

Interested to read this thread. My sewing room has a yucky old carpet that hangs on grimly to every thread, and I can't wait to replace it with laminate flooring - I just need to stop buying fabric so that I can afford to do so!

when we were building my sewing studio, I really wanted anything but carpet. But we live up north and my room is in the basement, so I had to have carpet just because it's too darn cold otherwise. But the ONLY one who ever manages to step on that pin that's been on the floor for 3 weeks is my DH.....even the dog lays in there and never gets one, only hubby......maybe that's his hint he should stop at the door....he's also the only one that ever gets that teeny little piece of eggshell that made it into the cake batter, etc etc etc.....

Same here. With my quilting "studio" in the basement, the carpet is just so much more inviting during the winter months! It was a tough decision, though. If I really dislike it down the road, I would replace it with tile.
