Has anyone else thought about doing this??? I know we don't like to think about death, but it is coming to all of us.

There are a couple of posts about this topic if you want to search on the board. I'm pretty sure I saw a picture in one of them. I think it's a good idea.

I made a quilt for a dear friend who passed away at age 95. She had taken it with her while she spent her last days in palliative care. When I went to the visitation at the funeral home, I was stunned to see OUR quilt dreaped over her casket with a very modest arrangement from her family on top. I was really touched by this gesture. The quilt went home with the eldest daughter.

Several funeral homes have been doing that in Kentucky for about 10 years now. It nearly floored me when I was asked to make one for a neighbor's mother. Then I found out it was a common thing to do.

My name is Chris and have been a reader for a long time. Read that you were from Milton WV. My husband is from Milton, such a small town, do you Know any Jenkins? Rhoda was his mother.

OMG - my sons have said for years that my casket would be covered with quilts - how nice it would be! I think it is a great idea!

What a super idea!!! I'm totally against funeral flowers anyhow. Such a waste of $. I plan to be cremated, but they could use a quilt on a table during a memorial service.

When my husband was diagnosed with Cancer my quilt guild (Bluenosers) made us a beautiful quilt which I placed on his casket, and it is bright blues and white with some reds - with hearts and mariners compasses (he was a naval architect). It was so wonderful because he requested no flowers and it now hangs in my dining room - I remember their loveing stitches and him each time I see it.

Funeral flowers are not meant to "last". They just make people feel better to give them. Like one last thing they can give their loved ones.
