My mother is turning 95 on November 21st. I think this is an outstanding idea and I really appreciate you for sharing this thought. I have sent it to my sister. Thanks so much!

Has anyone else thought about doing this??? I know we don't like to think about death, but it is coming to all of us.
Flowers, no doubt, are so beautiful. But, the idea of a casket quilt can be so endearing to the family. An appropriate theme can be used for the person departed. As mentioned, a small quilt can be used at the kneeler in the funeral home. Good suggestions!

I think that is a great idea. I had kidded about building my own box and lining it with a quilt. Well a sister-in-law took me serious. But maybe I need to give it more serious thought.

I think that this is a good idea. I too often think of the waste of flowers at a funeral.

    I like that idea.
I just recently saw fabric flowers. They were lovely. I saw the craft on line. Wouldn't it be nice to have a vase or two of the fabric flowers that could be taken home by friends and family in remembrance of the deceased?

The late Kay Yow, NCSU women's basketball coach, had a quilt on her casket. I loved the idea. Then, when I was diagnosed with breast cancer, a dear friend, made me a "bald headed ladies" breast cancer quilt. She took the backing to my office and asked everyone to pen a message with a permanent marker. After receiving the gift, I asked friends and my healthcare team to add their message. I don't plan to have use for it for at least another 25 years, but I do want it used on my casket.

I was going to check the box at the bottom that I didn't want to get the emails for this thread, but I have enjoyed reading everyones' thoughts and feelings. I have read them all, some with tears and some with a good laugh. Hugs to all of you for sharing.
