Yep, I had a cat swallow a needle once. My vet had a student interning for him and told me to try something; it worked my kitty didn't need surgery but a friends kitty wasn't so fortunate and required surgery.

I had to quit using my wrist pincushions that I had made because my cat would run away with them if I forgot and left them laying someplace. He would even dig them out of a container where I thought I had hidden them from him. Yesterday he was trying to pull the flower pins out of my project. Sometimes they can be such buggers but we love them anyway.

That's so much prettier than mine! My pin holder fits in one of those square plastic container - the plus side is my small scissor, seam ripper and alternate foot also fits in and it is ready for traveling also.

I have 2 of these. One for the bigger flat head pins and the other for the applique type pins. They are heavy enough they aren't going to be much fun. You could also put them in a box for extra safety.

I had to put a door on my sewing room when I had my older cat years ago. he swallowed a tiny bit of poly batting. Barium enema and all later, he was fine. So the three cats I have now never go into my sewing room. period. they wait outside for me.

I am so glad you have thought of this for your kitty. I mourn my kitty, Silvan, who died because he swallowed a needle and the vet said there was no way to save him (although the vet's practice is questionable as he waited many hours after I brought my kitty in to actually try to treat him). I cried for weeks...I still feel so guilty and sad when I think about Silvan. If I ever drop a needle or pin, I search the floor to find it before I do anything else.
