    Default Cell phone pouch

I’m wanting to make a pouch for my 95 year old mom for her cell phone and room for a small notebook and pen. Trying to figure how I can keep it within her reach but not in her way. Would love to hear your suggestions/ideas. Thanks so much.

I like this idea. Now this one is for a lap top but you could reduce it in size to fit her cell phone in the front pocket & have the zippered section for a small notebook. Now how to keep it within reach but not in her way is something I'm not sure I can help you with. Does she use a walker? Maybe you could add a velcro tab that goes around the walker that it could hang from. Same thing if she is in a wheel chair. If neither of those options & she is still very mobile, maybe an over the shoulder strap would be good. I'm just throwing out suggestions that might ring a bell for you.

I've seen ladies wear them around their neck, like a necklace.

A lot depends on her mobility and lifestyle. Sorry, at that age, it is hard to guess what factors may affect the design and usage of the bag, so it is not in the way, as you requested!

A cross body bag style would keep it within reach and give some movement, yet still be able to get at it easy enough. Another possibility, might be to attach the bag to a waistband/belt. You could make the belt or use a real leather belt, with loops on the bag to slide the belt through.

Good idea for the pocket for a notepad and pencil. Maybe some other things .... kleenex? lip balm or lipstick? etc. So don't make the pockets too small! You might want to include velcro, zippers or buttons so nothing gets lots between uses. Can happen all too easily!

    Good Luck!

My aunt is in her late 80's and leaves these items on a tray on her walker. She does not leave the house much - she is not shopping or going out to eat unless taken by her son so she carries her purse.

A friend of mine was 90 and had a cell phone but never used it because she couldn't control her fingers well enough, she carried a small bag with her ID, credit card, cash, and note pad. Unfortunately she had a habit of setting it down even though it had a wrist strap and we were always going back for it, so I started keeping it in my purse whenever we went anywhere together.

At the end of my mother's life - she was 80 when she passed, she was wheel chair bound and wanted to keep her purse in her lap whenever she left the house. She was able to sit up in the chair without restraints so holding on to a purse was not a problem.

So it all depends on the person and what the person wants.

I carry my cell phone and poop bags for my dog in a little pouch around my neck when I walk my dog. Works really well for me. Both hands are free. I also sometimes used it when I went shopping also, just stuck my keys, phone, and a coin purse with my money in it too. Mine had a little flap that went over the top. I know this is not the best way to carry your valuables when out and about....but I figured, I really didn't take anything that valuable with me.

I use a rather large, circular plastic tray that I bought at Wal mart for my mother's bed. It holds her phone and other items close at hand without being in her way. I also made her the bag from byannie's free pattern (watch the free video).

For traveling I also have one that I can put around my neck. It has room for a cell phone, identification, note pad, pen.

I made a small cross body bag for my neighbor. I made it with an adjustable strap so she could wear it around her neck or as a cross body. I put a zipper on the top for the cell phone and zippered pockets on the outside to hold other valuables.
