I have seen pictures of it. Not close up. It was made in 1946 and is model 15 in a cabinet with a bench. Looks nice in the pictures. But I was wondering if any one has had any experience with the singer model 15? I have looked online but only find 15-91 or something to that effect. Just curious. It could have been sold already but wanted to get some input before I go crazy. lol

Singer made model 15 for many years, I have a couple of them. The second numbers (after the 15) like the 91 refer to updates that paticular one has. As the technology improved so did the Singers and the model #s changed. They may have motors, different bobbin winders, different stitch lenght adjustments. The 15-91 is a later model and very nice.
Can you tell I have way too many old Singers?
Good luck with it and do ask for many closeup pictures, front-Back_Bobbin area etc. Mary

it is on craigslist in my area and I have emailed them - they haven't taken the posting down yet but haven't answered my email to them yet either. the following is the description they give.
1946 singer electric sewing machine model number 15 serial # AG768676 so I am not sure which series it might be.

Mary thanks for the added information about the numbers that come after the 15. I admit I was a little confused about them but they didn't give any other numbers other than the 15.
Guess I will just wait and see if it's meant to be or not. lol

Mary since you have several singers do you think this one would work for quilting? (maybe a silly question but I have to ask or I don't know) That will be my intended purpose for it. I seem to be on a roll working on quilts at least until spring gets here and I can get outside. lol
Can you ever have to many? I really need to see what kind my grandma's is that I do have. When I tried to use it before starting my quilts the wheel wouldn't turn on it. But I have been reading and have read that oil in the right places can maybe fix this problem. :)

I found out the one that I have of my grandma's is a Sears Kenmore model 117-959. I could only find an article that said they had a manual that was dated 1947 for that model. I will have to keep looking for more information on it.

Carol, I would gladly use almost any old Singer for piecing and the only one that I wouldn't use for quilting is a featherweight because the throat space is too small. I do quilt on a longarm Tin Lizzie, piece on a 1940 Singer Featherweight and do my binding on a Singer 301. There are so many for sale at cheap prices locally that I would probably hesitate to spend much online unless it is in super condition. There are Yahoo groups for the vintage Singers, all of them are wonderful sources of information and parts if you need them. I have seen very cheap 201s, 15s etc. On Craigslist. At least Craigslist is local and you can see the item before you pay. Keep the oldies clean, lubed, oiled and the will go forever. :-D Mary
PS: No you can't have too many, it's an illness like quilting.

Mary, Thanks for your input. I might check on the yahoo groups for vintage Singers. Oh wow on the tin lizzie. I had to look it up to see what it was. Sweet!!! So very cool and so much more advanced than I am. But Sweet! none the less.

Carol, I bought my Tin Lizzie second-hand, found it on craigslist!!! I don't have much room in our small house so we took out the kitchen table and eat in the livingroom. I can't open my microwave all the way, I have prioreties.
