Hmmm, now you ladies have got me to thinking (husband always tells me "that dangerous" when I start thinking). If I could get a kit to make a charity quilt, is the kit already cut so all I would have to do is piece, supply batting, backing and quilt it? That would save a lot of time, as I tend to take months deciding what fabrics go together and what pattern to use. I would rather use that time to be stitching.

The kits are precut, and they suppy the backing too. You just need the batting. Hope this helps.

Maybe I missed something here ( couldn't have anything to do with being old ). I just haven't been able to find the area where I can do "kits", or whatever, thereby saving on fabric.

After you go to the website
Click on "Quilts For The Cause"
    Then click on "Volunteer"
Fill out the information and ask for 1 or more quilt kits.
The kits usually arrive in 3-5 days.
They are really great kits and cute childrens fabrics.
Have fun, and sew up a storm

Quilts for Kids does the same thing - Quiltsforkids.com It is through the Downy Corporation.

I usually use my stash and I do make scrappy quilts. But I will really watch the sales, especially for backings. I don't want the back to be boring for kids. I want it to be bright and cheerful. So when I find some on sale, it comes home with me for future kids quilts. Our guild makes "Child Delight" quilts for kids in the local foster care system. Every kid entering foster care in our county gets a quilt. It definitely keeps us busy! We also make "American Hero" quilts for wounded veterans. So I am always on the lookout for Red, White & Blue fabrics on sale.

I belong to a Church group and our mission is to make quilts as community service. We began 3 years ago as a ragtag group of about 5 or 6 and have grown to about 25. We receive a bit of money from the church, and use that for batting and backing but rely on donations of fabric and our own stashes for the quilt tops. Our stash at church has grown and it is always fun to figure out how to make a quilt top from someone else's purchase....for instance, who buys snakeskin printed flannel? It's fun, and anything that I use out of my stash, I consider my charitable contribution.

I use my stash when making charity quilts and donate fabric to groups who give out fabric for charity quilts.

Whenever I can I use fabric from my stash for my charity quilts but when necessary, I buy fabrics to go with what I have. What pattern I use depends on who the intended recipient is. i.e. cancer patience, babies, etc.
