Another way to add to your fabric stash is to go to garage sales and purchase all cotton shirts or dresses. Learn from fabric stores, quilt shops, and the internet. Feel the fabric it is a way to tell you how it will handle. Welcome to this board. Hugs

You don't show where you're from but if you're like me you don't have a fabric shop within 30 - 50 miles. Newport, AR WalMart has a good selection of fabric and I shop there some. On line is my go-to place to shop. Men's cotton shirts is definitely your least expensive bet.

I've bought a lot of fabric, bundles, and kits from Connecting Threads and have been totally satisfied with every order.
My second favorite is:
http://www.crazyquiltgirlfabricshop.com/
Her prices can't be beat!

Hi and welcome to QB and to the world of quilting!
I love Connecting Threads! I also order from fabric4less.com...most of the fabrics you must buy the whole bolt (usually 15 yards) prices are mostly $3.25 a yard...but they also have an area where you can buy "flat folds"...this is usually several coordinating fabrics, 1-6 yards of each, $2.50 a yard last month when I ordered some. Whatever you don't end up using/wanting you can sell. They also have batiks ($3.98-$4.35 a yard) and wide backing fabrics ($5.75 a yard). You do have to create an account (free) to see the prices, etc. but this was as easy as signing up on any site. Here is a link to the site:

I am very lucky that our local quilt shop is always having sales on fabrics in order to make room for new lines of fabric to come in, this past weekend all fabric including batiks were $4/yd and end of bolt price was $3 yard. We have a group of us that quilt there once a week and anything we purchase is 15% off so check your local quilt shops for their sales and specials you can get a good discount on quality fabrics if you watch their sale offering, and you come home with your fabrics no waiting for them to arrive or shipping charges. In order to compete with onlines sales and prices most of our local stores offer many opportunities to purchase good quality fabric at a discount.
