Oh man, I'm bummed. I knew the International Quilt Show in Chicago was coming up and I googled it to see the exact dates so I could plan. THEY'VE MOVED IT TO CINCINNATI!!!

    WHAT A BUMMER!

So ... might have to think about doing Paducah instead.

I'm sorry for you but I live in Cincinnati and am so darn excited about it I cannot wait. The Paducah show is good but I've been there so many times and it is terribly hard to get a hotel room that is decent this close to the show. If I were you I would make sure you look for one very soon.

I grew up in Cincy, and I'm planning to go to the Show. I still have a sister and brother there, so I don't have to pay for a hotel!

I will miss the show in Chicago/Rosemont. I never missed a year of it. It's wonderful and exciting! We have a big show in the fall in Des Moines...again, I never miss it, except for the year I had H1N1. I stayed in bed that year.

What about this one coming up in Schaumburg? I've only ever been to one quit show and that was several years ago at Rosemont. I'm thinking about going to this one.

I called about a dozen hotels today, all booked. The funniest was when I called the Executive Inn which is attached to the convention center - but apparently is closed. The recorded message said "this number was formerly the Executive Inn. If you are a debt collector do not leave a message as there is no-one here." Oh my!!

Another hotel I called - a major chain - said I had to wait to talk to "Lloyd" and he doesn't work Sunday. I told her I only wanted to see if I could book A ROOM. She understood and said I needed to talk to Lloyd. I asked "help me understand, I want to ask about reservations and your only reservation desk is Lloyd and he's not there so your hotel is unable to take reservations unless Lloyd is working?" Yup. Now I could understand if I was calling a 2 room B&B but a COMFORT INN?? Time warp?

Which show was this for, the Cincinnati or the Paducah?

This is one of the larger quilt shows. Most all of them have classes, lots of quilts on display to drool and ooh-and-ah over, and many many vendors to buy from. The Intl. Quilt Shows are very big shows (vs. a local show run by a guild or a regional show) and usually display hundreds of quilts, and have anywhere from 200-1000+ vendors from all over. It can be overwhelming the first time you go, so pace yourself, LOL. But it is highly worth going to a show - not just for the phenomenal shopping but it can really get your creative juices flowing when you see all of the quilts on display and take classes if you have the time.

Visit http://www.quilts.com for more information about this and other international quilt festivals coming up this year. The biggest one by far is Houston Intl. Quilt Festival which is at the end of October/early Nov. Another site for good quilt shows is http://www.quiltfest.com Also check your local quilt guilds to see if they have a show.

I wish it was still in Chicago too...only 3 hours away...Cincinnati is too far away....I do hope some year to get to the show in Houston, and have been to the show in Paducah once.
Local quilt shows are also fun to go to...and Manitowoc, WI is the first one on my schedule to go to.
