    you could also make lap quilts using just one block. just resize the pieces and make sure they aren't too many pieces. You could always help them SID. Here's one I made and I added a border to the top and bottom to make it a little bigger.

    I think the doll clothes are difficult, trying to get in the small spaces can be a challenge. With 4H we made chef's hats (found that on the web but I know there is a pattern now), aprons of their choice, a group quilt (they each made a square), heart shaped bags (inserting a zipper), this year they made a book cover (very easy, http://sewing.about.com/library/sewn...abookcover.htm ) They have enjoyed all the projects and most of them I found on the web. Google for free patterns.
