All the fancy rulers to make all the neat blocks. Oh, and a big cutting mat and lots of blades. pressing mat/ Rotary mat,and an Acucut Go and lots of dies. Not much, huh? I won't get any of it as my family would have no idea what to buy or where. I can hint and hint, and when they start shopping they forget it all. and anything else to make I forgot to kmention. Rightnow I have an old mat, small size, good scissors, two straight edge rulers, rotary cutter, and that is it.

Thanks everyone for all the great suggestions so far!!

clem55 -- give them a list with the name of the store, item, etc LOL That is what I am doing. We are struggling right now (dh's job changed which means less money) so I wish quilting wasn't such an expensive hobby :(

Quick Quarter used to make 1/2 square triangles or 1/4.

LOL I see we use similar terminology "thang, thingy" hehehe

What is a quick quarter? is it a ruler?

you are so right! I look at the prices and wonder if I really have to have that stuff. I made my first quilts with a yard stick, tape, scissors, and cardboard templates. They turned out pretty good. I was teasing about the family, they are pretty good at getting what I like, but hubby never remembers anything. Of course, he is good at buying pretty jewlery so I can't complain.LOL

I make a lot of 12.5" blocks, so I use my 12.5" square ruler all the time to square up the blocks!

For me, I also need a really good, washable ironing board cover! I guess I am hard on them and I can't stand when they are dirty so I wash them a lot and these new ones just don't hold up in the washer! In fact, the last one I almost bought said DO NOT WASH! What??!!

You may want a few seam rippers! They get dull quickly and lost easily!

A chopstick does just as well as anything else for corners and stuffing.
Standing across the room and/or taking off your glasses does pretty well at sorting light, medium, and dark, too.

My first gift to a new quilter would be a good basic instruction book.

I always appreciated Gift Certificates to my favorite LQS. Then I can get what I need or want. My DH loves the convenience of it. This way I can wait until a big sale day to go splurge. Usually end up buying fabric. Only problem with GC is that I end up spending twice as much!
