I only do hand quilting or tying as I have not tried the free motion. I am just finishing a rail fence. I went around each square and then made a cross from corner to corner. Then around the edge of the border. Works out nice for me. On the back ( used bleach muslin) you see the square , the x and then where 4 come together, it forms a star. Let me see if I have a picture I can post. ok I found one, hope it is the one that shows the quilting on the back. smile

Karate Lady, that is amazing! Thank you for sharing a picture with me! I am a visual girl, lol.
I'll be using my walking foot on a regular machine with a smallish harp. I am a bit worried about stuffing it all thru, and spinning it, to make circles. What size circles are we talking?
I do know the baptist fan, I have a general picture of that in my head . . wouldn't that have lots of starts and stops? If I did circles, to not have to start and stop, wouldn't it be more like spirals? or loops?
I really appreciate the compliments!! I got these fabrics, along with a few others, to make a light/med/dark shaded log cabin. The quilt shop lady helped me pick them. Then when I needed a special quilt, as quickly as I could, these were the best fabrics I had!! This is the last 'specialSpecial' one, thank goodness!! The dark strip will be the binding.
I am going to go google circles and fans, now! lol
thanks again!

I recently did a charity Rail Fence and quilted large circles radiating from the corners - marked the first one in each corner and used the bar on my walking foot (set at about 2 inches) to work my way to the center.
