    This was used by a woman from our quilt club to clean linens that were 50+ years old. She said it worked very well.

    Cleaning Old Linens-
    1 Quart Buttermilk
    1 Gallon Water
    1 Tbsp Fresh Lemon Juice
    Soak items in the buttermilk mixture for up to 24 hours, rinse twice, than launder as usual.

    Thank you for all of your answers. They were most helpful. I will be using the Martha Pullen method which seems to be equal parts of biz and blue dawn dishwashing liquid in a bucket of hot water. Then let it soak for 24 hours to a week. So off to the tub I go
