When I purchased my Janome 4000 many years ago I was told not to oil it. I probably wouldn't know where to oil it anyway, but the next time I bring it in for a check-up I will ask the dealer.

My Baby Lock should not be oiled at all.

I have a Janome 4200 and a 8200. I have also had a 6600 and a Horizon. The dealer said to oil the wick in the bobbin area with clean sewing machine oil. It does make it run quieter. Other than that no oil is needed.

I also have a Janome Horizon (love it) and was advised when purchasing it several years ago put a single drop of machine oil in the small hole beneath the bobbin casing every time I remove it to clean it and the shuttle area out. I clean my machine after piecing every quilt top (or a few smaller projects) and at least once halfway through quilting each bed sized quilt.
