I also find it interesting that the pattern your grandmother used is what I would consider a modern look. Your granddaughter is going to love the colors. Thanks for the wonderful story. I have not quilts from my side of the family, but I do have two from my husbands side. One is applique and the other is bowtie. Both are hand sewn and quilted. I am glad we have them to pass on to my daughter.

Love the story..I would certainly keep the old one, too. Can you frame it?

I have a sewing table just like yours! LOL... I finally cleaned it off last week, so...it's a pool table again (company coming next week, so needed the table for play).
Perfect height, pockets for scraps, and nothing falls on the floor....lol.
Love the quilt too...nice that you would do that.

The origins of a quilt are what make them special. The "new" one is gorgeous and love the colors. You've just made another family heirloom. :-)

I probably could but my sister would be driven crazy by the carelessness (some would say artistic creation but I knew my great-grandmother better) used in putting it together. My sister is a perfectionist. My mother might enjoy it, though. I hadn't thought of that and it gets me out of fixing it. I had thought about taking the most well preserved blocks out of it and doing something with them.

That's my horizontal design wall. I have another, larger WIP pinned up on my vertical wall and hubby was whining about the straight pins damaging the sheet rock. He quit whining when I started using the horizontal wall--LOL.
