color blind

Yesterday I finished the 36th basket block for my quilt. When I put them out to figure out the layout, it looked "off". After trying to get a nice layout for awhile, it finally hit me. There would be NO nice layout. The blocks did not "go together". For some reason, I had made the blocks in two different colorways/fabric styles and no way were they going to work. And exactly half of each. So now I have two quilts halfway done. Does anyone else do stupid stuff like this?

sometimes finding a 'neutral' that you can use to put it all together will make those odd balls work together just fine-
a cream/white- or even black
depending on the fabrics in the blocks
if you used the same background in the blocks that can pull them together
or of course you can just make 2 quilts
happens to everyone at some point ;)

Sometimes the only way you can tell when works is to get halfway into it like you did. It's great when it works, but when it doesn't, not so much. :?
It's not a bad thing to be halfway done with TWO quilts though.

Yea...I think we all enjoy what we do and just want to jump in and get going so we end up doing some of these happy accidents. Happy accidents because when you finally finish you will probably have 2 very nice quilts instead of one. Did a pattern one time and it said to cut all fabric face up. Well I didn't and so could not get half the quilt to work. When I realized that i had skipped that part of the directions, ended up cutting out more blocks and had two very cute quilts. One with pinwheels going right and the other with pinwheels going left.

I've resigned myself to doing two quilts. Good thing I love this pattern. I may change up the second one with an additional block so it doesn't look identical. Also, I love both sets of fabrics so it's a win-win. I still can't believe I didn't see that- I'm usually so good with colors.
