Okay, I'm making a baby boy quilt with greys (that lean a little toward blue), yellow and white. I'd like to make a zig zag quilt but I want the EASIEST way possible. I think there is a way to take two fabrics, sew them together, cut them apart and lay them to make the zig zags. I have attached (hopefully) photos of the fabrics. I'm thinking I just want to use the prints and not the yellow or the white plain fabric because then that will become the focal point. What do you think? What fun fabrics! I have seen 2 rectangles sewn together in 2 different colours and then arranged to make a chevron pattern. I think someone did one on QB but said they had a little trouble with the bias edges along the sides of the top. I think I would sew on the straight grain borders before trimming the edge to reduce stretch. There is another pattern that has strips of triangles that are off-set to make chevrons. Hopefully someone can give you a link for a pattern.

Well, there was a great tutorial for a zig zag quilt on Bee Square Fabrics, but it's disappeared. This version does not use triangles, so no dealing with that pesky bias!

I made mine with jelly rolls, so my strips are 2.5" by WOF. Sew two strips together, press the seam, then cross cut the strip into squares, my squares measured 4.5". Then sew the squares together into rows. The zigzags are made by turning the blocks. Mine is scrappy, but it's easy enough to keep the fabrics aligned to make chevrons.

After assembly, I simply trimmed the triangle edges square. It was a very easy and fast quilt to make.

I did one that way, too. My strips were wider than 2 1/2". Seems like 3 1/2". The second one was made the same, but not set on point so it's not a chevron. Its colors alternate with a neutral.

This pattern uses two pieces of fabric sewn on all four sides then cut diagonally to make 4 triangles. I haven't tried it but it's on my list. I have a great nephew due in Jan. and I was thinking of using this pattern to make a quilt for him.

I had to do some digging, but I found the tutorial that helped me start mine. I did do the edges differently as I didn't want to cut off any of my cute fabrics.

Quick, easy, your colors will make up beautifully! I would put one row of yellow in and the rest white, using the various grays for the offset rows.
