bevannthomas, I try to pick out my focus fabric and then look at the register on the selvage and pick 2-3 colors that are shown on the selvage. It's the best way to get all of the colors
to coordinate with the focus fabric. Eiltcoq.

I make mostly scrap quilts,I use my stash. I lay out sometimes up to 15 colors from light to dark if using the same color family. Then I use a thing my Mom taught me I squeezs my eyes almost shut so my sight is sorta blurry. If one fabric really stands out then out it goes. I have made some beauties with this method. As you see most of my quilts are scrappies. I dont think I have ever seen a quilt I didnt like. lol. Jolo

Stick with a fabric line. They will have coordinating prints that will work up beautifully in a quilt. Just make sure you buy enough for your project.

getting fabrics you like and that go together can take time. You have to trust your eye. I like to pick out some colors, line them up and then stand back a few feet and see how they look together.
