Colors for Dear Jane??

Blue - there are ways to do this though. First off, I just got my background fabric for about $3.30 per yard, if I include the shipping. An entire bolt of 18 1/2 yards arrived today!! I thought I was getting 15 yards, but I got more. The total cost, including fed ex shipping was $61. I think that was a great deal, and I also think there are lots to be found. As for my other fabrics, I picked up a beginning stash, and I continue to add to it when I see fabrics that are in the color scheme and value that I need. So, it doesn't feel like a huge outlay. For most of the fabrics I'm getting, I pick up 1/2 yard, 1/4 yard, and if I totally love it, 1 yard. I don't want all my blocks the same fabric, so that works for me.
Ultimately, yes, the quilt will cost some money. But if we do it slowly, it won't hurt so bad!

I'll have to start hunting, and saving. Fabrics here are very expensive, you'd have a coronary if you saw the prices!
I'm planning on a scrappy quilt... but want the background and sashing the same, to tie it all together.

all whites are not created equal -
if you do as Klue does - buy Kona only, it might be consistent -
but white muslin may or may not match another "white" muslin
just as some blacks are different from other blacks
I know that I've had to do a lot of "experimenting" (translation - the block turned out totally unsatisfactory) - so I would definitely go with the more generous amount. I also tend to make cutting errors.
What did Jane use for the backing of her quilt? I don't recall seeing a picture of that anywhere.

Another thing you can do is order block of the month from Stitchinhaven in Quitman, TX. You will get 2-4 blocks a month. They have been running the Dear Jane block of the month for several years. They start up in January. It is done in civil war reproduction I think.

I have to check the software...but you need to also consider that those figures don't include the back...
Whew....that is alotta fabric...but just think of what will be happening with it and the fact that the resulting quilt will be a heirloom and last forever....pretty good deal I think.
