Our 8th grandchild is due the end of July. I've made quilts for all our grandkids but not before they were born. My DIL has picked out a cute Winnie the Pooh theme and bought a sheet for me to go by. I can envision Pooh as the focus fabric and 2 or 3 other fabrics as secondary fabrics. Should I find a pattern so I'll know how much fabrics to buy? Or, should I buy fabrics, then choose a pattern? I don't mind buying extra, as I could use extra to make a raggy quilt to sell. (What I'm making for my DGB will be traditional, though.) Hope my photo comes out; I'm not good at photos. I would appreciate any help.

I usually buy fabric, then decide on the pattern.

I usually start with the pattern. I need it to know how much fabric to buy.

fabric, then pattern. And I agonize over how to figure out a pattern that takes the amounts of fabric I have on hand.

What I have done in the past is pick my fabrics from my stash, then find a pattern. but I was wondering if I was doing this right?
    thanks for all the advice.

I would probably save money if I chose the pattern then the fabric, but I'd have less fun building my stash...

    Cheers, K
