    I use the cheapest batting I can find, and put a flannel backing on almost all my quilts. If you make sure your quilting is spaced further apart it also comes out more comfy and less stiff

    I agree, if you choose a batting that doesn't need close quilting, the quilt isn't as stiff feeling.
