Compensating foot
I have this foot in three sizes for my Brother 1500. I have never used them. I really don't know the purpose of it. I would appreciate any info anyone has about this foot.

Just in viewing the picture, it appears to be a foot that allows you to stitch on the very edge of fabric, with the deeper part of the foot touching the feed dogs, while the part that doesn't go down as far sits on the edge of the material.
Edited to add: The foot could, also, allow you to turn under a small seam (you would have 3 layers of fabric vs 1) and stitch on the edge so that the fabric doesn't slip while trying to stitch it.
I have tried stitching on the edge with these newer sewing machines, and because the feed dogs are wider apart, edge stitching isn't easy, so this looks like a foot I would use.
