I have gotten myself so confused and finally decided to seek help. I have this design circulating throughout my brain for a quilt I want to make. My confusion comes from the point of having the design in my brain and putting it down on paper so I can see what it would look like. How do you experienced quilters go from your idea to getting the design into a quilt. I try to get it down on paper but it doesn't seem to look like I visualize. Any help is greatly appreciated. Margie

Graph paper or EQ program is the only way I know to draft the pattern.

Maybe you need one of those EQ programs. I can't do EQ because of
the operating system so I just draw/colour on a spreadsheet and/or use
Gimp. A pain but that's the best I can do for now.

As suggested, graph paper .... or sometimes I just start sewing and see what comes together!

I draw it out on paper and then finalize it on graph paper. ANything that works. EQ is good but something I don't want to learn. LOL. Can't wait to see your idea on this. ♥♥

What are you trying to design? Is is a full bed size quilt or a wall hanging? Are you making blocks or a full panel? I cannot draw to save my life so I always have to seek assistance when it comes to that. If is more geometric then I can do it with graph.

EQ is the best way for me to get a design down. It's easy to make changes too, unlike using graph paper.

Also if you have a simple graphic program like print shop. If none of that works - try going to a local quilt shop explain your problem. Ask for their help. Ask "if I describe to you - can you just do a simple chicken scratch - I can take it from there" Maybe your beginning or rough up is where you're losing it.
