I'm not sure that there is a single definition of scrappy. I see a scrappy quilt as one that uses a bunch of fabrics in either a hap-hazard, or a somewhat controlled manner. However, when I look at the blocks, they are not identical. I have enough fabrics to make a lot of scrappies, but my first quilt was a scrap sampler and I did not own a thread of fabric - so mine became a "bought" scrappy.
