    Default Corduroy

Can I use corduroy to make rag quilts? Does it fray?

Great question. When organizing my fabric this weekend I found 4 yard of real pretty corduroy. Could someone tell me if you can use it in a regular pieced quilt?????
Hopefully the experts here will help us both.

It does fray, I have never make a rag quilt with it. I did however make 2 blue jean and corduroy quilts, they turned out great. I did top stitch the blocks for my quilting this way they couldn't fray apart.

corduroy will fray with even more lint than the average fabric - the cord is really just cut loops of fibers

that being said, the fraying will not resemble the original corduroy at all

My best friend made her second quilt out of corduroy (for her husband) using a 1/4 inch seam. When she put in the washer, the seams all came apart. She learned for all of us that corduroy requires a 1/2 inch seam. I think it would make a great rag quilt!
