Cotton top and fleece or flanel backing-
#11
My 3 yr. old grandson LOVES the Disney movie "Cars". This is a blanket I made for him with just red fleece as the backing. (no batting) The top is one large piece that I found at the Goodwill! It worked up great and he loves it! Can you tell?

I have never used fleece. The stories on the board have my afraid of fleece. :? Love using the flannel. I have used it with batting. All depends on how warm you want the quilt to be. I have on my do list to do a summer lap quilt with flannel for the backing with no batting. I'm think of doing the top in a heavy weight silk.

You ladies rock!
I think I might try a flannel backing. I fine with a heavy quilt.
My favorite quilt is truly a utility quilt my Grandmother made when my father retired from the army. My grandmother took a bunch of scraps and used an army blanket as batting. No pattern, nothing matched the scraps were sewn in to rows the scraps were different lengths. I recognize some dress material and curtains and I think there are some of my father’s uniform shirts in there. The backing was again scraps, part of a curtain and a few blocks of different colors. Lots of love in that think and it was ugly but we fought over who got to sleep under it. No heat in the guest room. We also fought over who got to sleep on the floor in the Hallway (near the space heater). :-o
Thanks for your responses. As always the folks on this forum are wonderfully helpful.

I did quilt the "Cars" blankie on my sewing machine and I did not use any starch on it. I didn't have any trouble with it streching at all. I did wash and dry the fleece before I used it, in case it needed to shrink a little.
