I almost got scammed the same way when we were looking on CL to buy a used car for my DD. Be careful!

Similar thing here too but with a puppy. We did a search for breeders. Found a puppy we wanted and my husband saw they were about 45 minutes away. They were near NYC. My husband e-mailed them saying we're interested and we'll drive in to get it.. They replied that they were away on a retreat in Ohio. If we wanted the puppy they will ship it to us for x amount of dollars. If that was the case they should have changed the ad. But this is how the get you! It's all a scam! No puppy yet!

And that's the first clue that something might not be kosher, regardless if it's on eBay or Craigslist or similar venues.

I also had a guy on Kijiji who was selling a sewing machine in Vancouver...I am in Toronto...details seemed very fishy, price too good...so I pressed him for more info...and then when I told him we had a relative living in Vancouver who would be able to pickup for me..suddenly it wasn't available anymore..ad was deleted and I reported it...

Same here, I had a guy who said he was in London and unable to pick it up and when I told him I had a brother living in London who would meet him to collect the money, all of a sudden he disappeared.

The moral of each of these stories is the same - if it sounds too good to be true it is probably exactly that, too good to be true! Bargains do abound, but be sure to deal only in a reputable manner. If the 'deal' has unusual terms, strange or out of the ordinary conditions and requirements or demands personal data up front, I would caution you to think twice about the matter. Don't get caught up in the thrill of a possible 'bargain' only to become the victim of a scam.
