You use crayons to mark your quilt?

I have used these markers too w/great success so far. Someone above mentioned the yellow chalk thing...be warned that yellow often does not come out.

Puma, would you explain your use of crayola crayons in your quilting, please. I am intrigued by this.

Pretty cool idea. Are you saying these can be used IN PLACE OF the Frixon pen? I like the Frixon pen and use them a lot, but they don't always iron out.

I have used them for marking a quilt top. I first test on a scrap. If it comes out of the scrap I use it on the top. It has always come out for me. There are lots of color choices. Always test first.

I did a test of the markers on a white on white and every color washed out. Warm water and touch of detergent.

On dark colors I still use the tried and true sliver of soap or tailors chalk. Always washes out.

I just want to say a big "thank you" for this post! I read it back in November and went out and bought the markers. I finally marked a quilt this week, using the blue marker on a red, black, and white quilt. I put it in the wash, adding a little water (mine is a "smart washer" and wanted to make the quilt feel heavier to get it to add more water). As I poured water over the quilt, the lines completely dissolved. After washing the quilt with a few color catchers, there is no trace of the markings.

After reading horror stories of other marking methods, I'm so happy this one worked so well.

Thanks so much for doing this lab experiment. It's nice to know that I can now find inexpensive and easy-to-find replacement markers for those reduculously priced quilting pens that don't always wash out and once ruined my dressmaker cover. (The marks ate holes right through the stretch fabric that covered "Miss Ellie's" torso.) Now...off to shop for some. I think I'll try the Dollar Store first, to see if they have these markers in stock. If not, then on to Walmart.

I like Crayola washable markers. We were looking for top-quality washable markers, and we ended up buying this product. I also don’t have problems washing my clothes, even when they were stained with these pens.
