Thank you all for the comments. Great, great ideas. Some I had thought of, others were things I had not thought of. Please if any one would like to share pics of their rooms it would be great. I'm going to post mine when i get it all decorated. I think this board is going to be a great source of information.

if you are in the garage I suggest you find some of those cushioned mats for the floor in front of your height adjusted cutting and ironing tables. you will stand at those positions for long hours and cushioned feet is such a huge help. My cutting table was so low that it would kill my back. Then it was raised and it made all of the diffrence in the world.

I would not invest too much until I was into the space for a little while. Decisions I would have made about my sewing space when I first started out would not have been nearly as good as ones I made after I had a little more experience. Rather than put everything in there and then be sorry about something in the way it is laid out, I would put the minimum in and play around in there for a few weeks or so. I bet you have different thoughts after having used the space for a while.
Just my humble opinion...
Either way, enjoy it! What a great thing for your DH to do.

A lot of us posted pictures, ideas, comments, etc for sewing rooms both large and small. There were SO many good ideas!
One thing I can't do without is a design wall - which is nothing more than a large piece of batting hung or tacked to a wall so you can stick fabric pieces on it for blocks or mental therapy (heehee) - the kids love it as well - Colorforms in fabric!
