I am planning to baste a quilt for big stitch quilting with curved basting pins. As I look at the reviews on Amazon, the major complaint is that they are dull and hard to push through the layers. What brand is sharp and easy to use? Also, what size is best for a lap size quilt?

I can't remember the brand but probably Clover. I believe I bought them at Joann's. Maybe Dritz- sorry I can't remember that part. Mine work fine. They are medium sized and sharp. Hope this helps!

I use curved basting pins also. Purchased at least 4-5 years ago. They are Dritz. No problems whatsoever.

i got mine at walmart. size 6. only a couple of duds in the large batch

I have Dritz and I have had them for several years. They still are very sharp.

I have several hundred small ones from Walmart, made several purchases over the years. Had a few duds but most are still sharp.

You can stick them in a bar of soap like we did diaper pins back in the day. It always made the pins slide in easier.

I checked and they are Dritz.

I have at least 1000, of various brands. I've only run across one or two that weren't as sharp as I'd like. (They'd poke the finger but not through the fabric. Go figure.)

I bought 600 size 1 Dritz pins on Amazon and I haven't bumped into any dull pins so far. Granted, they aren't razor sharp, but they work for me. I guess it depends on the "batch", so to speak.

When I bought mine I do remember the negative reviews, but decided to go ahead anyway.
