One of my Tuesday ladies does a lot of the cut down scraps to little squares and then makes lovely projects out of them, often for the Preemie project her guild is associated with. Another one got it in her mind to get rid of her littlest pieces and she made a kazillion HST units that finish at 1". More power to them both!
I tried keeping down to that "small" for me, wasn't so happy with it. If I had 2.5 squares, for whatever I had in mind I needed 1.5 or 3" or something else so I decided that while I can cut down, I can't cut up and have decided to keep nothing smaller than 6.5" x larger than a square. That does mean a lot of "really good" bits are no longer stored by me -- I'm ok with that and have found a crumb quilter willing to take my trims. I feel better doing it that way than just tossing the little bits.
I did this "Not Quite Y2K" about 2 years ago now? Using up the last of my 2.5 squares and sticking them all in one place, these were mostly from swapping back then. Think I had something like 720?? It was not quite Y2K in any number of ways
