I do LOF if at all possible.
As for cutting long lengths accurately...I'm a ripper. I rip off long strips about 1.5-2" wider than I need them, and then press then trim the ripped edges off. If fabric is too tight for me to use up that much in trimming I'll start with one ripped edge and trim from there. Best way I've found to stay on grain and make sure I'm not going 'wonky' on such a long piece.
The trimmed, ripply pieces...if wide & flat enough I'll toss it into a crazy quilt (foundation pieced), or I will use them as "ribbons" to tie packages and/or to play with the cats if they're so ripply and/or narrow that they're unusable.
