What is the correct way to cut borders. Do you lay the fabric open on the cutting board, then cut the two sides of a border the length of your cutting board (mine is only 24 inches wide), then slide the fabric along so that an uncut section is on top of the cutting board, then cut additional length, and continue doing this until the correct length (and width) is cut? Hope you can understand what I'm trying to explain.

Or is it ok to fold over the fabric so that you can cut more width and length than one layer at a time?

I always, very carefully fold and cut multiple layers of fabric for the borders.....and I make sure that my rotary cutter is very sharp!

I fold and cut :thumbup: But keep an eye on it ... seems after I cut a couple strips I have to straigten out the edge, or I start getting elbows :wink:

I fold mine and then cut. I do try to keep the folds to a minimum though, just make sure that you smooth everything out very well before cutting and you shouldn't get any waves.

I stole my husband's t-square that is 48" long and use that. works really well.

When I first started out quilting I did like you described, cutting only a single layer and sliding the fabric down as I went. I later learned that as long as your folds are parallel (I don't know if that's spelled right) you won't get the v's. Like Sharon b mentioned, after a couple cuts you have to check your edges and folds because things shift just a little and you'll start getting the v's again.
