The only time I cut it off was when making the log cabin heart pattern. You cut the pieces lengthwise instead of wof.

I have done both but I haven't seen where you actually use the selvage in projects. Good idea, I'll have to look that up. My family had always saved it in the long strips to tie up tomato plants and flowers and things like that, since it doesn't stretch. Just another recycle tip.

I like to cut the selvedge off before I cut the pieces. Then you get a nice clean cut.

I wash my fabrics with the salvages still on. I press before cutting my fabrics and I cut the salvages off before cutting the fabric into the required shapes for my pattern. By cutting the salvages off before cutting you won't make any errors in measuring you pieces of fabrics.

I don't, I fold it with the selveges together then take the fold up to the selvege and cut 4 layers. I square the ends (selveges) off of my strips later.

I cut strips & then selvage. I might have to try a selvage project so will think about cutting selvages first.

Funny you should ask. Tonight using black fabric I noticed that I forgot to cut off the selvage and incorporated it into the square I was using... Will now have to recut. I try to not cut the selvage off until I need to do so but think in the future I will ALWAYS cut it off on pieces where it isn't very, very clear.

Same here, cut strips with selvedge, then cut selvedge off as I use the strips
