So I am doing a pattern that calls for a 43" square of fabric to be cut on both diagonals, making 4 1/4 square triangles. I have the 43" square ready. I am a bit stumped on the best way to cut that large of a cut. I was thinking the easiest way might be to fold it and press the two diagonals and then just move the ruler along the pressed crease to cut? Am I blanking out on an obvious easy way to make the cuts?

that is the best way unless you have a long stick or other straight edge. Be sure you fold carefully so the crease line will be straight. I would fond once and then fold each sections separately.

What if you fold corner to corner to make a HST then slice.. then open them up. and slice in half again..

I would use a long ruler and draw the lines from corner to corner and corner to corner. You could then use your rotary cutter on one section at a time and move the square and ruler as needed. OR you could use your scissors to cut on the lines. Make sure your fabric is well starched before any cutting because you are going to have bias edges that could stretch. This is the way I'd do it but do it the way your comfortable with.

Isn't it great to have so many helpful people here! I never would have thought to use a longer cutting edge, as simple as that may sound. We get so caught up in doing things one certain way, when others make a suggestion, it's like.....why didn't I think of that! Oh the joys of the QB!

Be careful if you press it. Don't iron but press down. You'll stretch it.

I wouldn't fold it. I would use my long ruler and mark the diagonals.

The first cut would be the longest as you would have two smaller cuts after that. If you carefully do as you suggest on the first cut, you will not have the same problem for the other two.

Thanks so much guys. I think I will press the first long cut and use that as a guide for my ruler then just cut the two smaller pieces normally. I certainly don't have a ruler that will go from corner to corner so its that first cut that was giving me concern.
