I will fold in half and use the rotary cutter to measure and cut.

You could always butt up two acrylic rulers.. End to end.. Tape it if you dont want to buy the suction cup attachments.

Fold fabric carefully, check each strip to make sure strait and straiten as needed. Good luck.

Risking the probability of opposing remarks, I would say to RIP it! Yes, very old school. Make a clip to the width you want, then take out all of your aggressions and tear those strips. Eleanore Burns has said "get 'er done".

I "walk" the fabric. I simply stand at the narrow end of my cutting mat, cut as far up as I can reach, then move the fabric down. I do about a 4-6" overlap with the ruler so it lines up well with the previous cut edge and cut again. I don't fold it because I always get the wobbles. I have ripped, and it works well with some fabrics, but the treads pull too hard and mess up the edges too bad on others. (I do generally tear if I need to get the grain perfect.

I was trying to think of a term that would describe what I do, and this pretty much sums it up. Keeping the ruler stable is really important.
