Here’s mine. It’s made from the IKEA Kallax line - two 8-cubical and one 4-cubical pieces. Hubby built a plywood and wood platform on 6 casters, and the top is 1” melamine, all bought at Lowes. So easy to move around the room. I also had him put two cup holders and a built-in trashcan on one end. One needs a place for wine! It’s 4.5 x 6’ and on one side there’s an overhang to put stools under, which is great for when I’m doing applique or crafts. The big bonus is that he made the entire thing to be easily taken apart in the event we ever move again.

I agree that Ikea is a place to check out. I bought table tops (2 sizes) and adjustable legs separately in the office section. The larger of the two sizes straddles a UK double bed so it uses the same footprint as the end of the bed in the spare room I use for sewing. The smaller table, also raised has my machine on.

My cutting/work table is quite large. We had bought two low, 6-drawer dressers from Fleet & Farm. My husband had made a temporary kitchen island top, which is about 6 feet by 4 feet. When we got our counter tops, we put the heavy wooded one on top of the two dressers (drawers facing out). I put a skirt around the front and have plenty of storage underneath. I love it!

I have a "normal" table but as it is too low for cutting a little bit longer (my back begins to hurt..) I made a heightening: I build it for myself with wood from the building supplies store: a wooden plate and two fitting bars! When I need the table for normal use I can remove the heightening! Here you can have a look what I mean!
