Has anyone ever tried this? I bought some awesome layer cakes this weekend and am thinking about trying this. I am going to try it on some leftover fabric first, but I was wondering if anyone else has tried this and what do you think?

10 in layer cake.. try the 10 min block.. that will be fast. what I ran into with the DP9 was a surprise..
I used two plain fabrics and a busy one for focus.. had to use a decrative stitch in the center of the longest block.. to offset the bland plain fabric..
Good luck with yours ! If I had a layer cake.. deff would use the 10 min block ideas.. there are several to choose from.
will be watching for your quilt ! Good luck !

I have tried other sizes for the DP9 and find that 4.5-5" sized blocks work the best and give the best appearance. Portia, if you need help cutting up that layer cake, call me and I will come down. a 10 minute block would look much better with that size of fabric.

D9P is called the disappearing 9 patch block or quilt. you can search this board for pictures or do a google search and it will give you an idea of the pattern.

I use charm size for D9P. But light and dark color placement is important. Dark for center block, medium for corner blocks and light for the other 4 blocks.
I made the mistake of washing layer cakes and had some fabrics shrink more than others. So I dont wash any pricuts any more.
